FAQs

Do I have to be Christian to join?
No, everyone is welcome! What started as the Young Men’s Christian Association in 1844 has evolved into the YMCA of today, a far-reaching organization that welcomes and celebrates everyone regardless of faith, race, age, sexual orientation, ability and income level.

Does a national board make all the decisions?
The YMCA of Southern Nevada is governed by a local volunteer board of directors. They set policies and make decisions based on our community’s needs.

Why do you need to raise money?
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we run an annual fundraising campaign to offset costs not covered by fees. Funds raised provide scholarships to those who might not otherwise be able to afford the YMCA experience. No one is turned away because of an inability to pay.

My grandpa belongs to the YMCA. Is it cool enough for my family and me?
If you consider a 34-foot rock wall, water parks, pools, fitness centers, cycling and yoga studios, basketball courts, weight rooms and dozens of programs like belly burn, karate, basketball, buddy personal training, swim lessons and Zumba hip (whew!), then the YMCA is definitely cool enough for you. We bet your grandpa loves it too. There are fitness and recreational opportunities for every member of the family, from infants to seniors.

When are you opening a branch near me?
Our three YMCAs are spread throughout central and northwest Las Vegas. Along with our board of directors, we are always looking to expand our brand into underserved areas of Southern Nevada. While there are no new full-service facilities planned at this time, we are continually evaluating new ways to meet the fitness and recreational needs of individuals and families.

What if I can’t afford the YMCA?
No one is turned away because of an inability to pay, and that includes you. We’ll personalize a membership package to meet your needs, including your budget. Financial assistance is also available.

Can I sign up for a program if I’m not a member?
Yes. But remember, membership has its benefits. As a member you can participate in programs, sometimes at reduced rates, and enjoy everything the YMCA has to offer, including all facility amenities, free fitness classes and much more.

Is my membership only good where I enrolled?
Your membership gives you access to all three YMCA of Southern Nevada locations and the various amenities, plus you can use YMCAs across the country when you’re away from home.

I’m moving to Las Vegas. How do I transfer my YMCA membership?
Just stop by a branch within 30 days of arriving in Southern Nevada and we’ll work with you to get your membership transferred.

Can I stay at the YMCA?
Unlike many YMCAs around the country, we do not have residence facilities.

Do you offer babysitting?
Our Childwatch program is the solution to your child care dilemma. Your child (3 months – 7 years) can enjoy fun, stimulating activities for up to two hours while you focus on your wellness routine. It’s free to members. Hours vary by location.
